If I Only Had A Brain...

This happened to me about a year ago, and I had shoved it to the back of my mind, but for some reason I thought about it tonight, and it made me giggle.

In my defense, I'm used to driving a stick-shift. I was driving my mother's car (automatic) when it stalled for no apparent reason (cars hate me), during rush hour, in a huge line of traffic, smack in the middle of Odenville. Yes, Odenville has a rush hour, and no, surprisingly, there are no livestock or tractors involved. Lots of toothless, be-mulleted hillbilles, but I digress. I panicked. It took about 8 seconds before the fingers started waving and the hillbillies started speaking French.
Who knew they were so cultured...?
In my panic, I checked the gas gauge. Full. I checked for any warning lights. None. By the time I threw up my hands and started screaming at the hateful car, I heard the telltale "whoop-whoop" of one of Odenville's finest. Great.
I slumped down in the seat and prayed for invisibility. Barney Fife swaggered to the car. "What seems to be the trouble, ma'am?"
Oh, I don't know, officer, I just thought it looked like fun to stop my car in the middle of the road and make some mischief! Tee-hee!
After explaining the situation to him, he stuck his head in the car so he could see what was wrong. After a second, I heard him making a strange squeaking noise.
I freaked out once again, thinking not only was I holding up traffic, and becoming the most hated woman in Odenville, I had also somehow caused the heart attack of one of Odenville's finest. I was already picturing the angry mob hanging me at City Hall when I saw that he was laughing. Laughing!
"What are you laughing at?" I spluttered.
In between his shrieks of laughter, he managed to explain my problem.
"Ma'am...you have to put the car in park before it will crank."
Eeeeek.

So am I the only one who regularly has these I-want-to-crawl-in-a-hole-and-die moments?

Of course I am. ;)

Ohhhh, God Bless you, honey! LOL!
Have you ever forgot to put the car in "PARK" before you tried to get out?

LOL!!!!

That is soooooo funny girl! I am so bad at putting the car in neutral or park at a redlight and I'll get distracted and by the time I notice, everyone in front of me has already gone, so I'll push the gas, and my car just rev's.....Its soooo embarrassing!

ROFL! Poor, poor Casey! That is too funny! Thanks for posting that for our amusement because I really did get a kick out of that. I've do stupid stuff all the time, but never that one. LOL! Ask Robin Brantley about not putting her stick shift in gear when she got out one time. :)
